I have been organising getting a wreath layed for William Fielding for the past five or six months, today, rememberance sunday, it all came together.
I had the choice of laying the wreath myself but i left that honour to my Great Aunt Muriel(William Fielding's first born daughter), she was very touched and suprised that i had found out so much information about her dad, she was three when he was killed (shes 87 years old) and has never known alot about his history or where he got killed.
My Great aunt was put into care shortly after his death, and then stayed in jersey during the occupation, and she has spent her life looking after children including me and my sister that had no homes to go too, she also had a two daughters herself, my Aunt Ruthie(William's Grand daughter)and my aunt Zoe. So as you can imagine she has never had the time to research her fathers history, even though she has allways thought about him.
The day i went down with the wreath, to ask if she would like to lay it was a very emotional day for me and her, i had organised something she had wanted to do for along time but she had never had the time.
With the help of Barrie Melvin, (Jersey branch of the British Legion), who sorted a Merchant Navy wreath out for me and organised for my Great Aunt Muriel and her daughter Ruthie to lay the wreath on rememberance sunday.
Without his help and the help of others in the british legion, todays wreath laying would not have happened, i would like to send my thanks and gratitude to them for all their help.
My Aunt Ruthie has asked me to find out about getting a boat out to where his ship was sunk, so we can put a wreath down and also have a priest with us to say a few prayers for William and his commrades who died with him, we are hoping to do it next year on the same date that his ship was sunk.

Merchant Navy Wreath.

This is the wreath that Barry Melvin organised for me to lay, in honour of my Great Grandfather and all the other Merchant men lost during times of war.

Laying of the wreath.

This is my Great Aunt Muriel (in the wheel chair) and her daughter Ruthie, going to lay the wreath, as you can see the weather was not to kind to us.
I would have taken more photos of the pararde and my Aunt, but i didnt feel right clicking away on my camera during the parade.
They where stood with the other civilian organisations including the RNLI.

Sadly Muriel died just before rememberance day 2003. The wreath laying has now been passed onto the next generation of my family.

Wreaths.

Sadly you can't see the wreath my great aunt layed in this picture, to get a picture of it would have ment climbing over the fence, and im no athelete. I found the parade gets smaller every year, i took part in it around 12 years ago when i was in the seacadets, i was only in them a few years and sometimes i wish i had stuck at it and got a carier in the navy.<--end text_4-->
